  • Friday 5:25 PM U.S.-based solar companies suffered today, reversing gains made yesterday after trade duties were announced. Some think the duties could end up hurting the U.S. solar industry because they could slow the rapid price declines that have made the technology less reliant on government subsidies. FSLR -8.4%, SPWR -9.1%. [Tech, Energy]
  • Friday 10:52 AM A day after American and Chinese solar stocks went in opposite directions thanks to the U.S. government's imposition of anti-dumping duties on Chinese solar imports, the entire group is trading lower (TAN -2.1%), perhaps due to investors focusing on the huge oversupply and pricing issues facing industry players regardless of location. Among the big losers: FSLR -3.5%. STP -3.8%. SPWR -5.2%. YGE -6.4%. [Tech, On the Move]
  • Thursday 2:50 PM The U.S. government has imposed anti-dumping duties of 31%-250% on Chinese solar imports, a source tells Bloomberg. The duties are the result of an investigation into whether Chinese firms, backed by government subsidies, have been selling modules below cost to drive out competition. First Solar (FSLR +7.2%) and SunPower (SPWR +13.6% - previous) are rallying on the news, while some (though not all) Chinese vendors are selling off: YGE -11.8%. HOKU -8.8%. LDK -3.9%. [Tech, On the Move]
  • Wednesday 2:49 PM First Solar (FSLR -7.2%), no stranger to bad news, plunges to new all-time lows a day after David Einhorn discloses he liquidated his position in Q1. On the flip side, Expedia (EXPE +3.5%), which Einhorn established a position in, is posting a decent gain. [Tech, On the Move]
